Bears and Shockers To Represent Valley in NIT

The Missouri State Bears, the regular season champions in the Missouri Valley Conference, were disappointed to find out that they were not included in the field of 68 when the NCAA Tournament brackets were announced on Sunday night.

"I don't know if I feel snubbed or (that it's) unfair," Bears coach Cuonzo Martin said. "I mean, life is unfair."

But the Bears aren't done playing basketball.

Missouri State received their consolation prize, a 3 seed in the NIT Tournament that begins on Tuesday night.

And the Bears are not the only MVC team in the field as they will be joined by conference rival Wichita State.

Missouri State hosts Murray State out of the Ohio Valley on Tuesday night.  Game time is at 7 pm at JQH Arena.

Murray State has a 23-8 record on the season.  As a 3 seed in the NIT, it may be the last home game of the season for Missouri State.

Meanwhile, Wichita State received a 4 seed in the 32 team field and will host Nebraska out of the Big 12 on Wednesday night.

While Missouri State was particularly disappointed to be snubbed from the "Big Dance," coach Martin will have his Bears ready to play.

"But I just think that at the end of the day, our guys will be ready to play," Martin said of his team playing in the NIT.  "Once you get on the court and start playing basketball, all the other stuff goes out the door. Because now you're just a competitor."
